Flavel Honored at Water Valley Tournament
Senior Camron Flavel was named to the All-Tournament team this week-end at Water Valley. The award, given to only seven players who participated in the 16 team tournament, honors the top players to compete, and was selected by the coaches and officials. Flavel's consistent play during the season has been a contributing factor to the early success of the team. Congratulations to Camron for this well-deserved award!
Boys Fall in Final, Girls Lose to Loraine
The Lady Falcons held a 14 point lead going into the fourth quarter of action against Loraine Saturday morning in the Water Valley tournament. Unfortunately, the lead was not enough as Loraine rallied to beat Veribest 40-36. The Loraine rally was fueled by Veribest miscues, resulting in a 20 point scoring spree by the Bulldogs. Playing without the services of Haley Humble, and losing Emily Lankford to an injury during the run, Veribest fought hard to maintain contact. In the end, Loraine hit some key free throws, and held on for the surprising victory. During the tournament, Emily Lankford led the Lady Falcons to their victory over Westbrook, pouring in 26 points. Coach Wiite was appreciative of the effort given by the team. The Lady Falcons return to district play Tuesday when they take the trek to Cherokee. They hope to pick up their second district win before facing Eden Friday night.
The Veribest boys faced Christoval Saturday in the consolation final. In a closely contested fight, Veribest fell by a final of 48-45. During the entire contest, neither team held more than a nine point lead. The Falcons entered the fourth quarter nursing a five point advantage, but failed to capitalize on several easy baskets. Two controversial travelling calls in the final minute sealed the game for Christoval, but the Falcons fought until the end. Coach Nason would like to recognize each player for their contribution during a great tournament run. Clint Holik and Chris Buck came off the bench to help the Falcon cause, and the starters all played consistently well. Veribest will open district play Friday night against state-ranked Eden at Veribest.
Come out and support the Lady Falcons and Falcons as they look to make the playoffs!

Junior High Girls lose in a thriller, boys prevail in blow-out
In an exciting contest, the junior high Lady Falcons fell to Olfen by a final of 25-24. It was a close game throughout, with the Lady Falcons holding on to a 14-13 halftime lead. At the end of the third quarter, Veribest had extended the lead to 20-16. Jaden Sturm scored 8 points for the contest, as did Jessie Padilla, but it wasn't enough. Unable to handle a press, the Lady Falcons relinquished the lead in the final minute of the contest, and lost by a single point. The coaches were proud of the effort of the girls who will now face Paint Rock in Paint Rock.
Meanwhile, the junior high boys continued their winning ways by dismantling an over matched Olfen 38-20. The Falcons dominated play from the opening possession, building a 17-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. Led by the play of Adolfo Lara, who scored 15 points on the night, and the inside presence of Cody Hurt, who added twelve points, the Falcons extended the lead to over 20 points entering the fourth quarter. All the Falcons contributed to win, which pushes the Veribest record to 6-0.

The Veribest Lady Falcons came off a disappointing loss against Ropes and showed their spirit when they beat the Miles Lady Bulldogs 41-32. Junior Haley Humble poured in 21 points to lead the Lady Falcon attack, while Katie Lankford pulled down 10 rebounds and scored 12 points. The win saw balanced team play and good team defense. Consistent play was once again turned in by Camron Flavel, and Chris Buck came in to give the Falcons a boost off the bench. The Falcons will resume play in the Water Valley Tournament on Thursday!

Varsity Boys Beat Highland
In a closely contested match, the Veribest Falcons used a 13-0 run in the fourth quarter to secure a 48-38 victory at Highland Tuesday night. A combination of timely shooting and stubborn defense proved to be the difference in the contest. One improvement to the Veribest game came in the area of rebounding. While struggling at times last week, the Falcons controlled the boards for a majority of the game. Zach Cline set the pace early, leading the team with eight boards in the first half. Cheyenne Black came off the bench to pull down nine rebounds on the night, while Brandon Beavers led the team with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Veribest now heads to the Bronte tournament, where they face Ropesville Friday night.
Junior High Sweeps Eden

In junior high basketball action, the Falcons and Lady Falcons left Eden with wins Monday night. The girls' game came down to the wire, with Veribest pulling out a 27-25 victory on a Jaden Sturm basket with less than one minute remaining. Eden had two chances to tie the score, but failed on both trips. Point guard Jessie Padilla guided the team with solid play throughout the contest.
Hoping to build their record to a perfect 4-0, the junior high boys played an uninspired first half, but rallied to defeat Eden by a final score of 25-17. The deciding run came at the beginning of the second half, when the Falcons rolled off ten straight points, led by the play of Adolfo Lara. Lara finished the night with 15 points. Also contributing to the Veribest win was Emory Lankford and Zach Book. Book finished the contest with 11 rebounds.

Happy Thanksgiving!

We have so much to be thankful for at Veribest!

Our booster club, led by Trish Aldridge and Beth Buck, has supported this program in every way possible. Thank you to all those members who support us!
Thank you to the faculty and staff for all of your help!
Yes, we do have so much to be thankful for, as we continue to build a school that this community can be proud of!

Falcons hold on in Santa Anna; JV Boys Win
The Veribest Falcons escaped from Santa Anna with a 58-51 win Monday night in varsity basketball action. Plagued by inconsistent free throw shooting and late turnovers, Veribest had a chance to take full control of the game early on, and finally looked to have the game under control at the end of the 3rd quarter. In the middle of the 4th quarter, the Falcons owned a 20 point lead, but quickly saw that lead whittled down into single digits due to turnovers and a three point barrage by the Mountaineers. The most consistent performance of the night for Veribest was turned in by Camron Flavel, who playing on a hurt ankle, controlled the tempo of the game from the outset. The junior varsity boys also tallied a win 34-21, their first of the year. Jeffrey Johnson sored 13 points in the win, and ran the point for the first time in his playing career.
The 5-1 Falcons and 4-3 Lady Falcons are set to play Highland next Tuesday.

Veribest Tournament a Success; Falcons and Lady Falcons place Second!
In its second year, the Veribest Invitational basketball tournament proved to be a great success. With eight local teams battling for early-season bragging rights and the best concession stand in Texas operational, large crowds saw some spectacular, nail-biting contests.
The Lady Bulldogs of Eden took home the first place plaque, defeating the Lady Falcons in the final by a score 32-20. Veribest made the finals by crushing Loraine and handling a good Blackwell team. The final was a close game throughout, with Veribest closing the Eden lead to five points in the middle of the third quarter. The Lady Bulldogs, however pulled out a methodical victory by playing solid defense, limiting the Lady Falcons to one shot at the basket. Two players were named to the all-tournament team from the second place Lady Falcons. Haley Humble and Emily Lankford were placed on the team for their consistent play. Congratulations to the Lady Falcons on their outstading effort during the tournament.
The Falcons made the finals by pulling out an exciting 53-50 win over Cornerstone. With three starters fouled out, the Falcons relied on bench players to secure the win. Laureano Sanchez sank the two free throws at the end of the game to secure the Falcon victory. In the finals, Veribest was overwhelmed at the start by state-ranked Eden. The Bulldogs used the press to open a 13 point lead in the first quarter. Midway through the third quarter, the Falcons made their run, cutting a 19 point deficit to seven points with three minutes to play. Veribest would come no closer, however, and would fall 59-46. The Falcons had two players placed on the all-tournament team. Jarett Jones and Cheyenne Black were honored for their play.

Lady Falcons Beat Winters, go 2-1 on the Season

After pulling out a thriller their first game of the season 34-33 over Robert Lee, and falling 40-26 to Blanket over the weekend, the Lady Falcons looked for consistent play and another win against Winters. That's just what they got, as they defrosted the Lady Blizzards 39-26. Haley Humble led the way for Veribest, pouring in 17 points during the contest. In a closely-contested match during the first half, the Lady Falcons used good defense and strong rebounding to pull away in the third quarter. Angela Hood led the team with 12 rebounds, eight of them defensive, and Katie Lankford provided steady play throughout the match. Veribest outscored Winters 14-2 in the pivotal third quarter. Veribest hopes to continue their winning ways as they play Loraine in the first round of the Veribest Tournament Thursday afternoon.
Junior High Basketball gets into Gear; Boys start Season 2-0

Cross-country represents Veribest at Regionals

Over the weekend, Veribest sent one girl and a boy's team to the regional cross-country meet in Arlington,Texas. Crystal Benge, the female member of the contingent, finished in the middle of a pack of over 130 runners. She bested her district time by over two minutes, establishing a new personal best. The boys ran well as a group, placing 11th as a team overall. Cris Broz led the Falcons, finishing a full minute better than his time last year as a 9th grader. Other runners included Cheyenne Black, Juan Santiago, Misael Romo, Juan Fernandez, Jeffrey Johnson, and Dallas Martinez. Congratulations to all of the runners on an outstanding season!
Falcons Play Hard, Fall to Richland Springs 46-0
The final score was a lopsided 46-0. This, however, did not tell the story of Veribest's effort against Richland Springs Friday night. In one of the hardest-played games of the year, and facing the #3 ranked team in the state, Veribest mounted three impressive drives in the contest. Laureano Sanchez was the key to the Falcon attack. The Coyote defense struggled to contain the feisty runner, who repeatedly carried would-be tacklers for positive yardage. The only thing Veribest failed to do was push the ball into the end zone. Two drives ended in interceptions, and one ended on downs. The effort of the whole team was noted by the coaches. The coaches were particularly positive about the blocking and overall determination of the team. Jon Ubando, who played a good game, was injured in the closing minutes. He did have to have surgery to repair a severely broken wrist, but is on the mend.

Steers Stampede the Falcons 54-8.
In the last home game of the year, the Falcons hoped to honor the outgoing seniors with a victory. Instead, the game ended in the 3rd quarter, as Robert Lee beat Veribest 54-8. Trailing 16-0 in the 1st quarter, Veribest got themselves back into the contest with an impressive drive capped off by a Laureano Sanchez touchdown run. The senior's score, however, would be the only one of the night for the Falcons. A series of turnovers and the inablilty to tackle sealed Veribest's fate. Robert Lee scored both on pass plays and runs as they 45'ed the Falcons. One of the bright spots for Veribest was the play of sophmore Cris Broz, who defensively led the Falcons with 8 tackles.
Four seniors played their final home games for Veribest. Camron Flavel, Laureano Sanchez, Chris Buck, and Jon Ubando were honored before the game for their hard work and dedication. The season for the Falcons will come to an end next Friday as they face Richland Springs on the road.

Matt Valdez recaptured Falcon momentum as he scored from 8 yards out on a dive play. The extra point was caught by Zack Book, and at the half Veribest led 14-7. In the opening drive of the second half, Robert Lee drove the ball down the field and tied the score. Late in the 4th quarter, with under a minute to play, Veribest looked to have sealed the win with another Jon Santiago touchdown reception. With only seconds remaining, and down by six, the Steers scored on a long run to tie the game. With no time remaining, Robert Lee lined up to win the game on the extra point. They were held short of the goal line by Adolfo Lara and a host of Falcons, and the game ended 20-20

The three young ladies were presented with flowers and a necklace from the coaches and the Booster Club. The game was played at a high level of intensity, but Sterling City proved too much for the Lady Falcons. Veribest succumbed in three games, but never quit playing until the end. Lauren Moeller, Emily Lankford, and Megan Aldridge did a great job of blocking, while the back row played consistently well. Becca Perez came off the bench to give the Lady Falcons some back row support, while Haley Humble and Emily Lankford led the front row attack. The Lady Falcons will travel to Water Valley to play the Wildcats in the final game of the season Tuesday night. Veribest can knock Water Valley out of the playoffs if they can pull off the win. Take the drive to Water Valley and support the Lady Falcons!

Junior High Falcons win 7th Straight, get set for Showdown with Robert Lee

Another Thursday night, another win. The junior high Falcons played solid football from start to finish as they defeated Eden by a final of 51-19. A key play of the game came midway through the 1st quarter. With Eden driving deep into Falcon territory, Ethan Lankford intercepted a pass. The offense took four plays to reach the end zone, the final 40 yards of the drive accomplished on a nifty sweep by Matt Valdez. The Falcons used stingy defense and another Eden miscue to forge ahead 22-0. Jon Santiago made a nifty 30 yard catch from Adolfo Lara to score the third Falcon TD. From that point, the rout was on, with Eden never getting closer than 20 points. One of the most impressive aspects of the ball game was the play of the seventh graders in the 3rd and 4th quarters. Sam McCray made several nice stops, and scored on a 25 yard run. Next week, Veribest faces another junior high powerhouse, Robert Lee. The Steers have only one loss on the season, that to Rankin. Game time is at 6:00 pm in Robert Lee. Come out and support the Falcons.

Falcons take the sting out of the Hornets, win Homecoming game in style

Four straight weeks of frustration ended in a big way Friday night as an inspired Falcon team dispatched the Rochelle Hornets 78-28 at Falcon Field. It was an inspired effort throughout the game. Fueled by a huge crowd, and motivated to represent their school, Veribest took control of the game in the first quarter. Laureano Sanchez, who finished the game with 225 yards rushing, capped off an impressive opening drive with a seven yard touchdown run. Chris Buck added the two point conversion, and the Falcons led 8-0. On their next possession, Veribest once again scored, this time on a Ubando five yard carry. Leading 22-14 in the second quarter, Sanchez rumbled 38 yards to stretch the margin to 30-14. Cris Broz and Chris Buck hooked up on two touchdown pass plays, while Sanchez added another score on a 46 yard run in the fourth quarter. The night ended a bit early, as Veribest 45'ed Rochelle in the final minutes of the game. Congratulations to the Falcons on their great win! Next week, Veribest goes to Eden to take on the Bulldogs in a key district match-up. Game time is a 7:30 pm.
Junior HIgh Falcons stay Perfect for the Season
Following a 40-13 win over Santa Anna last week, the junior high Falcons travelled to Rochelle Thursday night to square off against an undefeated Hornets team. After falling behind early, Veribest rallied on their first possession of the game. Jon Santiago scored on a 35 yard reverse to give Veribest a 7-6 advantage. From there, the Falcons slowly pulled away, leading at the break 20-6. Matt Valdez was the star of the night for Veribest He ended the game with four touchdowns- two rushing, one on a pass, and one on a key interception return- in the second half. While the offense did enough to win, the defensive effort was praised by the coaches. Veribest now has a record of 6-0, and will face Eden next Thursday night at home. Congratulations to the Falcons on a great season so far! Come out and support the team as they look for seven in a row.

JV boys win in Santa Anna
The JV falcons posted their third consecutive undefeated week as they beat the Mountaineers by a final of 34-28. The scoring was opened for Veribest with a touchdown pass from Clint Holik to Dallas Martinez. Jose Morales also connected with Martinez on another TD strike, and added two touchdowns of his own running the ball. Veribest built a lead in the third quarter, but had to hold on down the stretch to beat Santa Anna. Over the last three weeks the JV FAlcons have two wins, no losses, and one tie.
Junior High Lady Falcons dominate Loraine
Thirty minutes- that's the time it took for the junior high Lady Falcons to secure a volleyball victory against the Loraine Lady Bulldogs. In impressive fashion, the girls dispatched Loraine 25-7, 25-14. The first game was dominated by the Veribest serve. Eryn Nichols served six consecutive points to open the contest, while Jessie Padilla added five service points of her own. The Lady Falcons were sloppy in their play early in the second game, but settled down to take control by the middle of the contest. Consistent play was turned in by the whole squad, notably by Jessica Tharpe, Jaden Sturm, and Missy Gerisch. The seventh grade now stand at 9-2 on the year, while the 8th graders even their record at 5-5.
Lady Falcons drop match to Water Valley

In an uninspired effort, the Lady Falcons were defeated by Water Valley 25-14, 25-16, 25-9 on Saturday. Coming into the game, the Lady Falcons had the opportunity to move into playoff contention with a win. While the girls played well at times, the listless performance in every aspect of the game led to an easy win for the visiting Wildcats. A bright spot was the play of the bench players. Megan Buck had two kills in the third game, while Hannah Ferguson had two blocks. The team looks to rebound against Bronte Tuesday night. Their goal is to play the rest of the season with the same passion that was exhibited early in district play! Come out and support the team in Bronte- they need your help to upset the Lady Longhorns.
Varsity Falcons hobbled by Santa Anna
In their first district contest of the year, the Veribest Falcons were slowed by injuries and inconsistent play as they fell to the Mountaineers 53-8. After Santa Anna scored on the opening drive of the game, Veribest responded with a 5 minute drive dominated by the run. Jon Ubando hit paydirt on a three yard carry, and Chris Buck added the extra point to give the Falcons the 8-6 advantage. Santa Anna took control of the game on the kickoff, returning the kick 71 yards for a touchdown. Veribest mounted yet another drive that ended in a fumble recovery by Santa Anna. A series of miscues and injuries crippled the Falcons from that point on, along with unmotivated play. Veribest failed to rally, and as the game progressed, Santa Anna steamrolled its way to an easy 53-8 mercy-ruled win. While disappointed, the Falcons hope to rebound this week against Rochelle at Homecoming. Come out and support the Falcons as they try to even their district record at 1-1. They will do so without the services of Camron Flavel and Dan Nichols, who were injured during the game.

Lady Falcons fall in Spirited Contest
The Lady Falcon volleyball team brought energy and effort to the court against Sterling City Tuesday night. Unfortunately for Veribest, that wasn't enough as they were defeated in three straight games 25-18, 25-20, 25-17. Sterling City attacked at will, but the Lady Falcons stood up to the pressure. Using consistent team serving, Veribest stayed in the contest. By game two, the Lady Falcons began to build a strong block up front, and the Lady Falcons held a slim lead 18-17. Serve return errors and inconsistent sets plagued Veribest throughout the match, and the Lady Falcons succumbed in the end. However, what was evident from the opening serve was effort. The team played with a positive attitude that led to several bright moments. Lauren Moeller, playing with a back injury, was the all-around star of the contest. Haley Humble hit well once again, and Emily Lankford blocked well in the closing stages of the match.

The enitre team showed improvement in all areas of play, including attacking at the net. Jaden Sturm and Jordyn Bauerlein dominated the net, leading to easy points for the Lady Falcons. Lady Falcons Collar the Dogs on Saturday
In a district match-up, the Lady Falcons picked up their first district win of the season, dominating the Loraine Bulldogs in three straight games 25-16, 25-11, 25-14. Veribest recovered from a slow start behind the timely serving of Crystal Benge and Katie Lankford to win game one. The Lady Falcons again rallied from a 6-0 game two deficit thanks to the hitting of Haley Humble and Emily Lankford. Setter Angela Hood and libero Allie Caldera were the difference makers of the match. Hood's timely setting and Caldera's passes led to attack after attack by the front row players. Megan Aldridge was also a key contributor to the cause, ,with two nice blocks. The Lady Falcons look to continue their winning ways as they travel to Sterling City on Tuesday.

Veribest Hosts Tripleheader

It was a night full of foootball Thursday at Veribest. The 7th grade game led off the action, with Veribest playing hard but falling to Water Valley by a final of 42-8. Falcon Samuel McCray was the workhorse for Veribest, but it was Collin Perkins who scored the lone Veribest points of the night on an impressive catch and run.
The second game belonged to the 8th grade Falcons from the outset. Using a dominating effort on both sides of the ball, Veribest demolished TLC by a mercy-ruled halftime score of 46-0. Scoring for the Falcons came early and often. Matt Valdez opened the scoring with a 53 yard touchdown run. Jon Santiago made the play of the game, hauling in a 34 yard touchdown strike from Adolfo Lara.
The final game
pitted the JV Falcons against the JV Eden Bulldogs. Eden built a two touchdown lead over the Falcons going into the 4th quarter, but the Falcons, led by the feet of Jose Morales, rallied to take a 36-30 lead with just over a minute remaining. The play of the game for Veribest came in the 4th quarter on a third and long inside their own ten yard line. Morales used two nice cutbacks and evaded two would-be tacklers to sprint the length of the field to give the Falcons their first lead. Eden answered back with a long touchdown pass play that took just under ten seconds. Driving once again, the Falcons were stopped short on a 4th and three, and the game ended in a tie. Dallas Martinez was once again a key contributor to the Falcon cause, picking up three big first downs during the Veribest rally. Of special note was the outstanding job of the referees in this contest.

Cardinals Win the Battle of the Birds 53-8

Veribest travelled to Hermeleigh Friday night with the goal of ending a two-game losing streak and restoring team confidence. By the end of the contest, however, Veribest limped home suffering their third loss in a row 53-8. In the first quarter, Veribest had their chances. After trailing 6-0, the Falcons mounted a drive that ended on a 4th down fumble by Miseal Romo, who had broken into open space but failed to secure the ball. The Cardinals then staged another impressive drive, ending in another score. Down 12-0, Veribest failed to move the ball-this drive ending in an interception. Hermeleigh secured control of the contest, and never looked back. Laureano Sanchez made the two standout plays for the team. With 12 seconds left in the half, Sanchez intercepted a pass that kept the game 24-0 at the break. In the third quarter, Sanchez scored the lone points for Veribest on a nine yard touchdown run. That momentum would simply not be enough. A deflated Falcon team succumbed to the Cardinals by a final of 53-8. This week, the Falcons will hope to regroup in time for the first district showdown with Santa Anna on Friday, October 10th. That game will be at Falcon Field.
Lady Falcons Push Bronte to the Limit, Fall in FIve
In their best effort of the season, The Lady Falcons played the #10 ranked Bronte Lady Longhorns down to the wire, falling in five hard-fought games. In the first district match of the season, Veribest shocked Bronte by winning the first game 25-23. Timely serving by Emily Lankford and a concerted team effort to control the net set the tone of the match from the opening point. Losing the middle two games, the Lady Falcons rallied to crush the Longhorns 25-17. In a game marked by tenacious front row attacks by the Lankford sisters and Haley Humble, and fine work on the back row by Lauren Moeller and Allie Caldera, Veribest forced a fifth game. The final game went to Bronte 15-11. While losing, the Lady Falcons gained the respect of their fans and the opposing coaches. Tonight, Veribest will travel to Miles to play the Lady Bulldogs at 6:30 pm.

Junior High Falcons Outscore the Cardinals

In front of a home crowd, the junior high Falcons soared to victory over the Hermeleigh Cardinals by a final of 38-32. In a game of momentum swings, the Cardinals busted out on top with the opening kick being returned for a touchdown. The Veribest offense then went on a seven play, three minute drive that evened the score at 6-6. After recovering a fumble, the Falcons struck again on a run by Matt Valdez. Leading 13-6, the Falcons would never trail again. However, the Cardinals continued to fight. Late in the fourth quarter, facing a 4th and long, the Cardinals connected on a 34 yard touchdown pass to pull the game to within six points. The Falcons managed to convert on a 4th down of their own with just over a minute remaining to secure their third victory of the young season. While the whole team played well, Jorge Santiago was the defensive star. Adolfo Lara and Matt Valdez were solid offensively. The highlight play was turned in by Ethan Lankford, who made a great catch on a one point conversion.

Falcons Battle Tough, Get Bit by the Bulldogs 50-37
On Friday night, the Falcons hoped to rebound from their lackluster effort against Rising Star as they travelled to Loraine to face the Bulldogs. The first half was closely contested, with both team breaking off huge plays. Misael Romo rattled off two impressive touchdown runs, while Loraine countered with a combination of runs and passes to take a 26-24 halftime lead. The third quarter, however, was dominated by the Bulldogs. The lone bright spot for the Falcons was a 32 yard pass completion to Chris Buck that set up a two yard touchdown run. The Falcons trailed by 20 points in the fourth, but cut it to 13 on a nifty halfback completion from Laureano Sanchez to Camron Flavel. The rally ended, however, when a fourth down and seven attempt by the Falcons fell short. The Falcons now seek to right the ship against Hermeleigh Friday night. The Falcons now stand at 2-2 on the year.
7th Grade Girls Bring Home the Hardware

The 7th grade junior high Lady Falcons travelled to Colorado City to play in tournament action Saturday. The girls played the host team out of the gate, and fell in two games thanks to inconsistent play. The Lady Falcons, however, rallied to win two straight matches to take the Consolation trophy. Katie Thomas and Savannah Wright led the team with clutch serves, while Nycole Ruble and Jessica Tharp were steady contributors. The 7th grade girls are currently 6-1 on the season. Congratulations Lady Falcons on your success!
Junior High Falcons Win Second Straight 40-7

From the opening kick-off, the Falcons were in high gear. Matthew Valdez started the scoring onslaught with a long touchdown run. Jon Santiago reached paydirt thanks to a pass completion from quarterback Adolfo Lara. At the half, the Falcons held a commanding 34-0 lead. Jr High Volleyball Splits in Action Versus Sterling City
On Monday night, the junior high Lady Falcons hit the road to battle the Sterling City Eagles. The seventh grade continued their winning ways, pulling out a tight contest in three games. While the entire team played well, Savannah Wright and Nicole Ruble provided steady contributions all night long. A combination of timely hitting and good serving allowed the Lady Falcons to run their record to 4-0. The 8th grade team once again found themselves in familiar territory, going the distance but losing in three games 25-6, 25-20, 25-17. The girls rallied in the second game after being overwhelmed in the first contest. Poor serving doomed the team in the third game. The most consistent player was Jordyn Bauerlein; her serves were the catalyst to the game two win. The 8th grade girls fall to 2-3 on the season. This weekend, the 7th graders will travel to Colorado City to play in tournament action. Good job, girls, and keep on improving!

Wildcats Maul Falcons 74-28

In an uninspired effort, the Veribest Falcons were 45'ed by the visiting Rising Star Wildcats Friday night. In their first match-up against a Division I opponent this year, the Falcons found themselves in the familiar position of being the underdogs. While the experts were split on who would win the contest, Rising Star stated their position on the subject early and often. After converting on a fourth and 23 on the opening drive of the game, the Wildcat offense built a 16-0 lead early in the first. Veribest responded, with a long pass reception by Camron Flavel from Cris Broz, and a five yard run by Cheyenne Black to cut the lead in half. From that point on, however, Veribest was overwhelmed defensively, failing to stop the Wildcats in their first five possessions. By halftime, the Wildcats held a 60-22 lead. Misael Romo was the most effective weapon for Veribest. Romo made two sensational runs that gave the crowd something to cheer about. The game ended in the 3rd quarter when Rising Star scored on a 43 Yard pass play to mercy rule the Falcons. Veribest looks to bounce back against Loraine on the road next Friday
at 7:30 pm. Loraine is coming off of a 70-20 loss against the Wildcats of Water Valley.

The junior high Lady Falcons travelled to Bronte Saturday to play in the Bronte Tournament. Coming off of a second consecutive win at home against Lorraine, the girls were prepared for much tougher competition. In their firs game, Veribest faced top-seeded Bronte, who last year beat the Lady Falcons 25-6, 25-5. The home team, however would face a determined opponent. In three tough games, the Lady Falcons won game one 25-22, lost game two 25-21, and fell in game three 25-23. Then, with no rest, Veribest played the 8th grade team from Colorado City. In much the same fashion, the Lady Falcons won game one 25-22 but lost game two. Game three saw Veribest rally from seven points down to take a lead of 18-14. The win, ,however. eluded the team once again, as the Lady Falcons fell short 25-21. Coach Nason was very proud of the effort of the entire team, and noted the clear improvement in the play of the team. Good job, Lady Falcons in representing the school with pride!
The Lady Falcons will travel to Sterling City on Monday to continue district play. Game time for the 7th grade team is at 5:30, with 8th grade action following the conclusion of the first match.

Coach Witte praised the effort of the team, and singled out the improved play of Allie Caldera as one of the reasons for victory. The girls will travel to Santa Anna Tuesday night.

Junior Varsity Boys put Points on the Board, Lose Close Contest
The junior varsity boys went to Rising Star on Thursday, losing a close decision 24-21. In defeat, however, there were small victories. The two game scoring drought was broken early in the contest as quarterback Clint Holik hit Dallas Martinez with a 65 yard catch and run. Emory Tucker caught a twenty yard touchdown pass, and Holik once again found his target as Dallas Martinez scored on another twenty yard touchdown completion. The game came down to a single play. Veribest scored in the closing seconds, but could not recover the onside kick. Coach Eubanks was pleased with the effort of the team, congratulating all the players for the great game. Falcons Sting the Hornets, go to 2-0

In Friday's football contest, the Veribest Falcons rallied from a halftime deficit to defeat the Novice Hornets 63-44. Playing on the road for the first time this season, the Falcons felt the pressure from the Hornets from the outset. In a first half dominated by offensive play, the Falcon defense faltered on the final series of the half, and relinquished the lead 31-29 going to the halftime break.
However, during the latter stages of the third quarter, and throughout the fourth quarter, the defense held the Hornets to just two scores, while the offense continued to churn out points. Along with Cheyenne Black and Misael Romo, once again key figures in the Falcon victory, senior Chris Buck got into the scoring act, catching a touchdown pass from Cris Broz. The Hornets fought until the end, but were simply outplayed by the Falcons. The coaches were pleased with the attitude and determination shown by the team, but continue to look for improvement next week against Rising Star. That game will be played at home beginning at 7:30 pm.

The 8th grade game was marked by solid play on the part of all the girls, especially Jaden Sturm and Jordyn Bauerlein. The coaches were extremely happy with the effort of the team. Overmatched but not outfought, the Veribest Falcons JV team faced Water Valley for the second straight week on Thursday night at Veribest. The Falcons squandered a number of scoring chances, and ended up losing 47-0. However, there were some bright spots. Dallas Martinez ran hard, amassing over 100 yards on the ground, and Edgar Ramirez and Emory Tucker turned in solid performances. Spirited Effort Falls Short, Girls Lose in Colorado City
In a highly contested match, the Veribest Lady Falcons battled to the finish but fell short against Colorado City on Tuesday night. In three close contests, that featured numerous lead and momentum changes, the Lady Falcons lost by scores of 25-19, 25-23, 25-20. The Lady Falcons were sparked by the hitting of Haley Humble, the setting of Alex Padilla, and the back row play of Miriam Fernandez. What doomed the girls were serving errors, which cost the ladies a chance to win in two of the three games. The girls will welcome Albany tonight as they play host to one of the powerhouses in small-school volleyball in the state. Game time is a 6:00pm.

Falcons hook the 'Horns!

In the first varsity game of the season, the Veribest Falcons used the steady play of Cheyenne Black and the slashing speed of Misael Romo to beat the visiting Buena Vista Longhorns by a final of 70-44. In a game of big plays, the Longhorns pulled out to a 31-18 halftime lead by exploiting the Falcon secondary, striking for two pass plays of over 50 yards each. The second half, however, was dominated by the Blue and Gold. As the third quarter played out, and the Longhorns lost steam and healthy bodies, Black blocked a punt and returned it for a touchdown, and Romo made a series of spectacular open-field runs to secure a tenuous Falcon lead of 50-44 going into the fourth quarter. Buena Vista's final shot at a comeback was foiled by Camron Flavel, who after being beaten in coverage, stripped the ball from the Longhorn receiver just as he broke free into open space. From there, the Falcons coasted to a comfortable victory.
One of the best efforts was turned in by Laureano Sanchez, whose blocking on offense and tackling on defense helped secure the Falcon victory. Dan Nichols also added a presence on defense. Next Friday, Veribest travels to Novice to take on the Hornets at 7:30pm. For photos click here.

Lady Falcons Fall in Volleyball Action
Inconsistent play plagued the Lady Falcons as they lost in four games on Tuesday night against Cornerstone. Winning the first game 25-22, and with a 17-7 lead in the second game, Veribest faltered as Cornerstone made a furious rally to overcome the deficit and take control of the match. The bright spot of the night was senior setter Angela Hood. The Lady Falcons hit the court once again next Tuesday as they travel to Colorado City.

Short-handed Lady Falcons play hard, come up short

In a dual match on August 22, 2008, the Lady Falcons, playing without 3 of their key contributors, lost in three games to the Snyder Lady Tigers. Inconsistent serving and passing errors plagued the young and less than experienced squad. Playing unaccustomed positions, the girls rallied but lost to Rotan in four games. The coaches were pleased with the overall effort of the players, especially the younger ones like Becca Perez and Miriam Fernandez. The Lady Falcons will take the court against Cornerstone Christian Tuesday night in San Angelo at five o'clock. Come and support your Lady Falcons.
Falcons fly against Westbrook, falter against Rankin

In their final prelude to the beginning of the regular season, the Falcon Varsity football team bested the Westbrook Wildcats by a final of four scores to one. Running back Cheyenne Black led the team with two scores, while Camron Flavel and Misael Romo added one score each. Prior to the victory, the Falcons were handed a four score to two loss at the hands of the Red Devils of Rankin. The highlight play of this scrimmage was a sixty yard catch and run from quarterback Cris Broz to Flavel.
In JV action, the Falcons pulled off a victory against Westbrook by a final of 2-0. Dallas Martinez scored both touchdowns for the Blue and Gold. The JV opens their regular season against the Water Valley Wildcats at Water Valley on Thursday, August 28th. Kick-off is a 5:00 pm.
The Varsity opens their season under the lights Friday night at Falcon Field against Buena Vista. Kick-off is slated for 7:30pm. Buena Vista is currently favored by seven points.... we hope that with your help, we can prove this prediction wrong!
