High School tracksters advance to Area!

At the district track meet held last week in May, several Falcons went above and beyond the competition to advance to area.

Cheyenne Black finished 3rd in the 400 meter run, 4th in long jump, and was a part of the mile relay team that finished 4th. He advanced in all three events, along with teammates Alex Lujan, a part of the relay team, Juan Santiago, who advanced in the 800 meter run and the relay, and Dallas Martinez, advancing in the 800 meter run.

Lady Falcon Lauren Moeller placed third in the 3200 meter run, also earning a place at area.

In the JV ranks, Jeffrey Johnson won the 800 meter run, and finished third in the 1600 meter run. Jose Morales won the 200 meter and 100 meter runs, along with the long jump, triple jump, and high jump. Cris Broz won both 1600 meter run, and also outran the competition on the 3200 meter run.

Tennis Prepares for District;Johansson Top Gun in Boys' Singles

After sweeping through the Abilene Invitational last weekend, Marcus Johansson enters the district tournament next week as the favorite, gaining the number one seed. Johannson faced players from larger schools, and swept through the competition in Abilene. He has yet to lose a match on the season, and considered a threat to make a run at the state meet. He leads a strong contingent of Falcons and Lady Falcons who look to bring home a district title in tennis. Junior Mike Valdez and senior Allie Caldera look to improve on their already successful years. Caldera advanced to the quarterfinals of the Abilene tournament, along with Becca Perez, in the singles competition.

Good luck to the tennis team next week!

Junior High Girls Take Home First Place!

The junior high Lady Falcons soared over the competition this weekend to win the District 14 Zone I championship in Eden. The girls were competitive in every event entered, and every point was needed. Veribest won the event by a slim 12 points over Eden. Congratulations to the Lady Falcons on a job well done!

The junior High Falcons dominated the running events and placed well in the field events, but fell just short of Eden in the race for the zone championship. While the Falcons settled for second place overall, the boys competed in and won a number of races. Congratulations to the Falcons.

As junior high athletics winds down, we need to look back on a great year.

The football team finished the year 7-1-1, the volleyball teams both posted winning records, the girls' basketball team had a great run, finishing well over .500 on the season, the boys' team went a perfect 14-0 in basketball, and the girls won a track championship!

Job well done to the coaches, athletes, and parents of Veribest!
